What are the major differences and similarities of the Hot Launch 3 and Hot Launch 4 sets?

The two series of Tour Edge Hot Launch clubs we are reviewing are the Hot Launch 3 and Hot Launch 4 series. Both series come as full sets with advanced technology designed to make your game more forgiving and consistent.

The HL3 set comes with 11 clubs. The HL4 set comes with an additional hybrid to make 12 clubs total. For those who prefer staying with the times, the HL4 club series offers updated technology based on the previous HL3 clubs. Tour Edge’s goal with this next-gen series is to benefit golfers even more so than their previous series.

Tour Edge Hot Launch 3 Full Set and Tour Edge Hot Launch 4 Full Set

The HL3 series is available in Uniflex, Regular, Senior and Ladies flex. Unfortunately, this set is only available for righty golfers. Both the Regular and Senior flex sets come only as graphite shafts. In the Uniflex set, the irons come as steel shafts while the rest of the set’s clubs come as graphite shafts. For those who may not know, Uniflex is a mix between stiff and regular flex shafts, making it a great choice for beginners.

The HL4 series is available in Regular, Senior and Ladies flex. This set is available for both righty and lefty golfers. For righties, irons are available as both graphite and steel shafts, while for lefties the irons are available as graphite only.

What are the similarities and differences in each of the HL3 and HL4 clubs?

To break down the similarities and differences between each club in the HL3 and HL4 series, we will go one club at a time. You will see which advanced technology is included in each of the HL3 and HL4 clubs, as well as what club measurements are different or consistent across both series.

Drivers

Tour Edge Hot Launch Drivers

Similarities:

Both HL3 and HL4 drivers have a forged titanium head and Cup Face technology. The combination of a titanium club head build with Cup Face technology provides more club face flex (think of face flex as “mini-trampolines,” as Tour Edge themselves puts it). This leads to faster ball speed, better distance and better performance on mishits, all with less effort. Both sets include a driver club headcover.

  • HL3 and HL4 Driver Measurements
    • 10.5° Loft
    • 57.5° Lie
    • 45” Shaft Length
  • Both come as 460cc clubheads (460 cubic centimeter volume)
    • This is the largest clubhead size in golf, providing the biggest sweet spot you can find

Differences:

The HL4 driver has Variable Face Thickness (VFT) technology. This technology provides maximum power and distance in every shot by expanding the sweet spot across the club face. Overall, your shots will find better speeds and distance with less effort.

The HL3 driver has a deeper Power Channel than the HL4. That deepness creates better weight distribution in the club head while increasing ball speeds with less spin. That effect keeps your ball fast at a lower flight path, with a more gradual path to the ground. You’ll also find maximum forgiveness on shots struck lower on the club face than intended, helping those who don’t always make perfect contact.

Fairway Woods

Similarities:

All HL3 and HL4 Fairway Woods have a forged steel construction and come with fairway wood club headcovers.

  • HL3 and HL4 #3 Wood Measurements
    • 15° Loft
    • 57° Lie
    • 43.5” Shaft Length
  • HL3 and HL4 #4 Wood Measurements
    • 19° Loft
    • 59° Lie
    • 42.5” Shaft Length

Differences:

The HL3 woods have Variable Face Thickness (VFT) technology. The HL4 woods on the other hand feature an all-new build. Along with the VFT technology, they have a thinner and lighter crown to create faster clubhead speed with a lower center of gravity. The club head itself has added weight for an easier-to-launch design.

Hybrids

Similarities:

All HL3 and HL4 hybrids have forged steel construction. This design provides faster clubhead speeds. Both sets come with hybrid club headcovers.

  • HL3 and HL4 #5 Hybrid Similar Measurements
    • 61° Lie
    • 38.25” Shaft Length

Differences:

The HL3 Hybrid has Variable Face Thickness (VFT) technology. The HL4 Hybrids though feature an all-new build. Same with the fairway woods, the HL4 hybrids have thinner and lighter crowns to create faster clubhead speed. They include heavier sole weight to lower the center of gravity, but also have raised MOI (moment of inertia) to prevent the club from twisting at impact. This design provides best feel, launch and forgiveness in every shot.

  • HL3 and HL4 #5 Hybrid Different Measurements
    • 29° Loft for HL3
    • 25° Loft for HL4
  • HL4 offers a #4 Hybrid with the following measurements
    • 22° Loft
    • 60.5° Lie
    • 39” Shaft Length

Irons

Similarities:

All HL3 and HL4 irons have stainless steel design. This design provides great feel and accuracy, even on mishits.

  • HL3 and HL4 #6 Iron Similar Measurements
    • 28° Loft
    • 62° Lie
    • 37.75” Shaft Length
  • HL3 and HL4 #7 Iron Similar Measurements
    • 62.5° Lie
    • 37.25” Shaft Length
  • HL3 and HL4 #8 Iron Similar Measurements
    • 63° Lie
    • 36.75” Shaft Length
  • HL3 and HL4 #9 Iron Similar Measurements
    • 63.5° Lie
    • 36.25” Shaft Length

Differences:

The HL3 irons feature advanced toe weighting. This elongates the sweet spot for consistent distance, feel and control in every shot. The HL4 irons include an expanded undercut cavity compared to the HL3. This design distributes the weight away from the face of the clubs (creating a lower center of gravity), which provides higher launch with maximum forgiveness and better consistency.

  • HL3 and HL4 #6 Irons have exact same measurements
  • HL3 and HL4 #7 Iron Different Measurements
    • 32° Loft for HL3
    • 31° Loft for HL4
  • HL3 and HL4 #8 Iron Different Measurements
    • 36° Loft for HL3
    • 35° Loft for HL4
  • HL3 and HL4 #9 Iron Different Measurements
    • 41° Loft for HL3
    • 40° Loft for HL4

All HL3 and HL4 wedges are built with Hot Launch Super-Spin design. They are designed with computer-milled grooves to provide perfect control on every shot.

  • HL3 and HL4 Pitching Wedge Similar Measurements
    • 64° Lie
    • 35.75” Shaft Length
  • HL3 and HL4 Sand Wedge Similar Measurements
    • 56° Loft
    • 64° Lie

  • HL3 and HL4 Pitching Wedge Different Measurements
    • 46° Loft for HL3
    • 44° Loft for HL4
  • HL3 and HL4 Sand Wedge Different Measurements
    • 35.75” Shaft Length for HL3
    • 35.25” Shaft Length for HL4

Putter

Both HL3 and HL4 putters are built with high-MOI (motion of inertia). MOI refers to how well a club is prevented from twisting at impact. The higher the MOI, the less it will twist at impact. Both series’ putters have easy-to-use alignment aid for more accuracy on puts.

  • HL3 and HL4 Mallet Putter Similar Measurements
    • 3° Loft
    • 70° Lie
    • 35” Shaft Length

Golf Bag

Similarities:

Both the HL3 and HL4 sets come with a fully kitted golf bag to hold all clubs in the set.

Differences:

The bag included in the HL4 set offers slightly more pocket space, but each set’s bag has slots for all 11 or 12 clubs. Design-wise, the HL4 bag is a black body with clean white accents. The HL3 bag is a black and grey body with minimal yellow-green accents.

Who should use Tour Edge HL3 vs Tour Edge HL4 clubs?

Both the Hot Launch 3 and Hot Launch 4 club sets are targeted for the same levels and types of golfers: mid-high handicap players. This group typically consists of beginners who are seeking their first official set, but also seniors and inconsistent golfers are included.

Basic golfers who play a bit throughout the year but want something better than a simple set, are also a great fit for the HL3 and HL4 clubs. Especially if they don’t want to spend a paycheck on an entire new set. These clubs are built around forgiveness and consistency, so if you’re always working on growing your game, these are perfect for you.
